An intelligent mind is an INQUIRING mind. It is not satisfied with explanations, with conclusions; nor is it a mind that believes, because belief is again another form of conclusion.

The qualities of mind -
To be one thing and not to change is the climax of STILLNESS. To have nothing in one that resists is the climax of EMPTINESS. To remain detached from all outside things is the climax of FINENESS. To have in oneself no contraries is the climax of PURITY.

You are the commander of your mind -
I've always been buffeted by circumstances because I thought of myself as a human being [affected by] outside conditioning. Now I realize that I am the power that commands the feeling of my mind and from which circumstances grow.

To free the mind -
In order that the mind may function naturally and harmoniously it must be freed from all attachment to oppositional notions. The mind should be freed from the influence of the external world. To let the mind take its course unhindered among phenomena. Not the cultivated innocence of a clever mind that wants to be innocent, but that state of innocence in which there is no denial or acceptance, and in which the mind just sees what is.

A new side to a well known man

Before finding this book I was unaware of Bruce Lee's work in Philosophy. I am a Phil major myself, and I found the balance of western and eastern thought refreshing. A lot of Philosophy is grouped in long wordy essays that make it somewhat a stratified ivory tower type of field. Lee's book is organzied in easy to read, simple koans, proverbs and sayings.
To one who has read a great deal of Buddhism, Pyschology, or Eastern thought, they may read a lot of what they may have already read. But this book doesn't disappoint, there are some quality nuggets in here. Bruce says much in few words, his eloquence can be stunning & profound.
Although I'm not really into martial arts or anything like that I always revered him in a certain light, in fitness, command, and eloquence.
Worth a read, I have new respect for Bruce Lee.

Bruce Lee's Greatest Work!

This book could easily have been retitlted "Bruce Lee Speaks To Everyone" for there is something of great worth for anyone who takes the time to pick up this book. My sister, who doesn't care a whit for fighting, picked up this book and has now purchased her own copy to carry with her to school. Bruce Lee's philosophy, which is more like deep yet practical insights into life is magnificent. Topics covered range from relationships, racism, love, parenting, dealing with adversity, money, business and motivation, to the more profound topics such as life, death and spirituality. This is by far the greatest Bruce Lee book I've ever read and something I will refer to again and again.

Here's an encyclopedia of personal development advice from an unlikely source. While most people may be attracted to Bruce Lee because of his movies or the legend he left behind, I'm more impressed by his courage and compassion. John Little did a great job editing this treasure. I'd recommend it to any man that I thought needed a boost in confidence and direction.

Billed as the most popular classification in the world, the DDC 21 works hard to merit its preeminent status. The overarching philosophy of this edition, updated and revised from 1989's DDC 20, is user convenience. More understandable terminology and simpler subdivision practice will be appreciated by classifiers and patrons alike. New faceting makes many subject areas more flexible and expandable. Visible efforts to reduce U.S. bias in wording and structure are welcome. The most extensive revisions (other than updating for changed jurisdictions) occur in Religion, Public Administration, and Life Sciences. In an effort to lessen Christian bias, the standard subdivisions of Christianity have been relocated from 201-209 to Christianity (230-270). A new option puts Old Testaments books in the original Jewish order, and 296 Judaism and 297 Islam have been expanded. Numbers for Public Administration are the same (350-354), but the citation order is changed from jurisdiction/ topic to topic/jurisdiction and subdivision is faceted. The citation order in Biology (570s) also is flipped to process/organism for internal biological processes. Other changes include updated terminology and new topics (rap music, Internet, virtual reality, in-line skating, etc.). The CD-ROM version, Dewey for WindowsTM, has additional index terms and historical notes for changed numbers. If implemented properly, DDC 21 will make browsing more satisfying and classifying easier. Recommended. Very satisfied

I have always wanted a copy of DDC 22. Well when DDC 23 came out....DDC22 was now the "old" edition and I could get it for a good price. This is a 4 volume set of books used to do cataloging in public libraries and other libraries that use the Dewey Decimal classification system. I received it on time and it was in very good condition. Price of $49.00 was great for 4 books. I am very satisfied with my purchase.

I purchased the 22nd edition as an affordable way to learn DDC. I figure that there aren't a lot of changes between the two, so it would be useful as a learning tool that is way less expensive.

M. S. Thambirajah, MBBS, FRCPsych (UK), is working in the UK as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. So cute!

Sometimes it feels as though the makers of baby board books just went to some clipart database or knock-off Disney catalog for illustrations. Not so here!

I love the creative collage style illustrations in this book, so it is a pleasure for me to read -- which is good, because my daughter (17 mo) likes it so well that we read it many times every day! She loves the cutouts with textured pieces. She has learned to say her colors reading this book. Though there aren't many words, it's fun to play the "where is the raspberry?" game "Can you show me an apple?" Identifying things this way is new to my daughter, so it's a fun game and good learning.

This book would be entirely appropriate to read with even the youngest baby. Though infants tend to fixate on images of faces, as soon as your baby is old enough to like texture and color, he will like this book.

For an inconsequential nitpick: I wish that the fruit at the end (fruit salad picture) didn't have a somehow pit-less peach and plum! It doesn't make me like the book less, I just wish that it didn't show the flesh going all the way to the center. Makes the peach pieces look more like persimmon. Oh well! That really doesn't matter when all the pictures have been so delightfully put together. Even on the glossy board-book page, the textures and variations in the original collage work come through. Such a fun exercise in illustration and modern design!

I just bought the vegetable one and expect to like it just as well.

We read these books everyday!

We received "I like fruit" at our baby shower and it was a hit from the beginning! She didn't start touching the textures until 5 or 6 months, and then around 8 months she figured out how to turn the pages and it became even more fun! Thankfully these are high quality board books perfect for little hands, and have held up better than several others (as we have read them over and over...and over again!). We now own "I like vegetables" and "I like bugs" as well. I love the art and textures in all the books. I also love how they are short and sweet, but can become easy topics for learning conversations (ie. colors, numbers, etc.). Because I speak another language, I often read the first time in English and the second time in the other language (it's easy to do because the books are not too wordy). I would recommend any in the series as they are a big hit at our house, but "I like fruit" is my favorite, and "I like bugs" is her favorite.

"I like fruit" focuses on colors: red, green, yellow, orange, blue and purple, with all the fruit included on the last page.

Adorable Book!

I bought this board book for my 21 month old- he loves it! He carries it around everywhere since we got it and likes pointing out the different fruit. The illustrations are adorable, and it is a great tool for teaching colors and fruits!

I believe God wanted this book written so His character and love for us would be shown, It shows us that God is our strength, if we just ask. Jane shows us how to listen for that still small voice of God. It was wonderful to hear from her the different ways God used to communicate to her and Allie My heart was overjoyed as I saw God had used those same ways in communicating with me. Great content, with a pretty good writing style, definitely worth the $2.99.

This book was a great read, specifically Chapter 6: A World of Bad Listeners. I was asked to leave an honest review,, and I was given a free copy to review, and this book has some very valuable information and tips to become a more effective, efficient listener. Although it has some great content, the writing style doesn't consistently catch my attention and I found myself spacing out a couple of times during the duration of reading this book. Overall, I would definitely recommend this to a friend, family member, or co-worker.

Amazing and import collection of tips and tricks to learn to listen better!

In today's world far too many people are talking all of the time and spending too little time listening. What's funny is that people who are truly good listeners are considered to be great conversationalists. They don't even need to say anything other than ask questions and nod when people talk. That is why this book is a wonderful resource to getting your listening skills in gear right away. Many of the tips aren't obvious at all. Though, even the ones I have heard before are important to hear again since having heard or knowing something is far different from actually applying it. If you aren't already a great listener you should check out this fantastic book!

This is such a very impressive book to read! Christian has written an excellent book that highlights both the importance of and the path to powerful listening. The book is easy to read, engaging, and supremely practical. I've used Christian's concepts to become a better listener with everyone from my boss at work to my four year old. It's really worth reading!

Concise and clear, Important test prep reference

This book is a must for anyone prepping for this exam. It begins at the beginning and has many more test questions than the Microsoft official curriculum. I prepped for this exam by taking the Microsoft course 6420, using LearnKey videos and CBT Nuggets videos, and reading this book cover to cover, and I passed the test. This book will be a little basic for the experienced IT Professional, but most people taking this test won't be that experienced.

Meant for the Classroom

I bought this book in the hopes it was a good resource for Microsoft's 98-365 MTA Exam. It's not. It's a student handbook meant for the classroom. There are no answers to the questions at the end of each chapter. In addition there are no online resources by the publisher of this book. I actually called them (Wiley) and the answer was that the author "wants you to think about the answers". Personally I want to pass the test. For the amount of money that is being changed for this book, the sloppiness and laziness shown by not only Wiley, but Microsoft as well is simply unforgivable.

Too plain

The couple of "Get Ready" sections in this book are misleading. when you get on the computer and try to follow instructions in the book, they don't seem to match with what the author is trying to say. Also, there are bunch of typos. the material is basic. Some topics does not include examples. You'd have to do your own web search to get complete understand of those topics. I preparing or MTA exam but I will also look at other material before taking the exam. I wouldn't solely rely on this book to prepare for the exam.
