About the Author

Xon De Ros, University Lecturer in Modern Spanish Literature, University of Oxford

Xon De Ros studied for her BA at the University of Barcelona and her DPhil in Oxford. From 1999 to 2006 she was Senior Lecturer at King's College London. Since 2006 she has taught Spanish literature at the University of Oxford where she is Tutorial Fellow in Spanish at Lady Margaret Hall and Somerville College. Her areas of research are Spanish Modernism, with a particular interest in the interrelations between poetry and the visual arts. She has also published on women's studies painting and Spanish cinema.

Meaney offers the first major study that sets the relationship between national and gender identities in the context of analysis of Irish identity as white identity, tracing the identification of female sexuality with foreign threat in nationalist discourse and its consequences in contemporary representations of immigrant women and their children. The study presents an extended analysis of the relationship between feminism and nationalism, and between gender and modernism. Analyzing the role of Joyce in contemporary culture and Yeats and Synge in the understanding of tradition, it also sets their work in the context of their less known female contemporaries and challenges conventional understandings of the Irish literary tradition. The book concludes with an analysis of the relationship between race and masculinity in Irish characters in US and British culture, from Patriot Games to Rescue Me and The Wire, The Romans in Britain to M.I.5

She now is an event organizer for a nonprofit but still finds time to do yoga, write books, play with her German Shepard, and keep her husband in line.Brian still believes he fooled Sierra into marrying him. �They met in college during a cycling class and it has been a wild ride since. �Brian spends his time in a biology lab looking under a microscope and teaching. �In his spare time he coaches youth athletics, tutors after school, and tries to keep up with his wife.

Great advice that is an easy read (and simple to put into practice)

The Butlers do an excellent job of sharing some useful advice for newlyweds. As a happily married man who still wonders how he and his wonderful wife survived that first year of marriage, I know good advice when I read it.

At times the text is overly simplistic, but the pitfalls and their solutions are presented clearly and with great instructions on creating and maintaining a solid relationship.

Highly recommended for all marriages!

As a newly-wed, I really enjoyed this book. I love that the information comes from first-hand experience and research, instead of other books that throw statistics and fantasy lives at you. I highly recommend this book not only for newly-weds but for any married couple that has found themselves in a rut. The thing that I liked most about this book is that while reading it I was able to relate, and even to point out passages to my husband and say "this is you" or "that is so me". It made me feel good knowing that my husband and I are not the only ones that have a few issues and to know that we are on a good path to staying in a healthy and long marriage.

I really liked the tone of this book. It wasn't stuffy and boring like other first year marriage books I've recently read. I've been reading several of these books ever since I got engaged. I'm trying to be part of a successful marriage and this book had some great insight.
